January 2004

17. Free Reggae Concert at the Sands Beach Club. The Sands Beach Club is hosting a Free Reggae concert on Saturday beginning at noon and lasting until 7pm. There will be three bands including the Headliner "Techno Dread" performing on the sand with the Atlantic Ocean as the back-drop. 1420 Simonton St.

20. Bonus Reggae Concert at the Sand's Beach Club. The Sands Beach Club is hosting a second free Reggae concert on Tuesday at 9pm. The band "Techno Dread" will be performing. Enter to win a "Piece of Eight" valued at $3,000.00, proceeds to benefit American Cancer. 1420 Simonton St.

20. 42nd Annual Conch Shell Blowing Contest. An Old Island Days tradition, this unique contest features novel sounds produced by contestants in several age categories. Contact: Fran Marchbank 305-294-9501

April 2004

16. Robert Frost Poetry Festival. Features a poetry writing workshop and a poetry contest. Staged at historic sites including the Robert Frost Cottage at the Heritage House Museum, where Frost spent many winters. Contact: 305-296-3573

23. 22nd Conch Republic Independence Celebration. Parades, bed races, parties and a wacky drag racecommemorate the founding of the unofficial Conch Republic on April 23, 1982.

26. 9th Annual Taste of Key West. Area restaurants present mouthwatering samples of their cuisine. A benefit for Key West's AIDS Help Inc. held at Higgs Beach Park. Contact: Denise Dunbar 305-296-6196

May 2004

12. Key West Songwriters Festival. Showcases some of America's foremost performing songwriters, staged in audience-friendly island settings. Contact: Charlie Bauer 305-296-4222

June 2004

11. Cuban American Heritage Festival. Showcases the culture and customs Cubans brought to Key West.

July 2004

20. Hemingway Days Festival. Twenty-fourth annual celebration of the legendary author's work and lifestyle highlighted by the Sloppy Joe's Look-Alike Contest. Contact: Donna Edwards 305-296-2388

30. Key West Summer Food & Wine Festival. Showcases the talents of Key West's master chefs as well as the quality and diversity of the island's culinary offerings. Contact: The Key West Restaurant and Bar Association 305-296-6909

September 2004

17. 32nd Annual Key West Poker Run. Motorcycles cruise from Miami to Key West to raise funds for local charities. Contact: Ted Thurnau 305-292-1177

October 2004

1. Florida Keys Birding & Wildlife Festival. Marathon and Lower Keys. A celebration of the natural wonders of Florida wildlife at the peak of the fall birding season. Presentations and field trips focusing on education. Contact: Dee Lloyd 305-743-3900

November 2004

1. Key West Old Island Days. Events include an art festival, crafts show, conch shell blowing contest and house and garden tours celebrating Key West culture and history. Contact: Fran Marchbank 305-294-9501

27. Pirates in Paradise 2004. Historic Seaport and other venues throughout Key West are transformed into a pirates' stronghold with mock sea battles, a thieves' market featuring arts and crafts, and more. Contact: Julie McEnroe 305-296-9653

December 2004

6. Key West Holiday Parade. Family-friendly parade through Old Town celebrating the holiday season.

18. Key West Lighted Boat Parade. Event features decorated and lighted boats cruising through Key West Harbor and the waters of the Historic Seaport. Contact: Evalena Worthington 305-292-3773

31. New Year's Eve Key West Celebrations. Southernmost City celebrates New Year's Eve with conch shell drop at Sloppy Joe's Bar, "wench" drop at Schooner Wharf Bar, and red high heel drop with drag queen Sushi at Bourbon Street Pub/ New Orleans House.
