May 2004

30. Banana Poka Roundup. Free forest education fair with live music, exhibits, games, classes and fun for all ages. Classes in Banana Poka basket weaving, Lei making and Oshibana card making will be taught. Contact: Michelle Hookano (808) 335-9975

July 2004

24. Koloa Plantation Days. Nine-day family festival on Kauai's south shore (Koloa and Poipu) celebrating history and culture of sugar plantation era. Sports events, craft fairs, block party, rodeo, guided hikes and historical tours, and more for families; most events are free. "Na Mele--Music Plantation Style" parade and town festival in Koloa on Saturday, July 31, 10am to 5pm, with crafts, food, entertainment. See www.koloaplantationdays.com for complete schedule. October 2004

9. Eo E Emalani I Alaka'i. This popular annual tribute to the leadership and lifework of Queen Emma Naea Rooke commemorates the spontaneous journey she made in 1871 to the upland forests of Kauai. Free of charge, the festival features live Hawaiian music, hula, a procession, and Hawaiian crafts and exhibits. Contact: Michelle Hookano (808) 335-9975

December 2004

18. 10th Annual Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade. The oldest and brightest small town parade on Kauai. Come early, browse through shops, eat dinner and stay for the entertainment following parade. Parade stages at the Waimea Athletic Field parking lot at 5pm. Parade route is along Kaumaulii Highway (50) from the intersection at Waimea Canyon Drive and ends at Hofgaard Park in the center of Waimea Town. Entertainment and light refreshments to follow.
