Protection Wait
one second Protecting your skin from sun exposure is not just a beach thing.
Sun exposure adds up day after day. It happens whenever you're outdoors: gardening,
sailing, skiing, fishing, hiking - just walking to and from your car. Sunlight
reflects off the water's surface. Ultraviolet (UV) rays are present even on cloudy
days. Most people don't
know that everyone is at risk for skin cancer regardless of skin color, race or
gender. Everyone needs to protect his or her skin and eyes from the sun. According
to the American Cancer Society, below are actions everyone needs to take to reduce
their risk of skin cancer. Limit
Sun Exposure between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M., when the ultraviolet (UV) rays are
most intense.
Dress
Appropriately by choosing shirts and pants to protect as much skin as possible.
Use
Sunscreen everyday even in the cloudiest of days. And choose a sunscreen with
Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or higher. And reapply often.
Wear
a hat and make sure it shades the face, neck, and ears.
Sunglasses
don't leave home without them. They help protect your eyes from UV rays.
Avoid
Sunlamps and tanning booths since they are as harmful to your skin as the
sun. Instead opt for the self-tanning lotions.
Read
the labels to every prescription since some can greatly increase your skin's
sensitivity to UV rays. Check with your pharmacist.
