Golden Oaks Mansion: Lake Geneva , Wisconsin

Nestled in beautiful Lake Geneva, the Golden Oaks Mansion offers guests a tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This elegant two-story turn-of-the-century mansion built in 1856 is situated in the heart of Lake Geneva. The inn is secluded in an acre of lawn shaded by oaks, yet just a short walk to the historic downtown. Since April 2002, Nancy Golden Waspi has invited guests to enjoy the contemporary comforts of her inn blended with an old world charm. Her attentive service ensures that guests receive the experience of a luxury refined inn rather than a downtown hotel.

Whether planning a romantic getaway, an overnight stay or a business trip, the Golden Oaks Mansion has a room that is just right. Since people have different tastes, Nancy created six unique rooms, each with its own personality. All six guest rooms are upscale, each with their own private bath. My favorite room, the Golden Sunset Suite features a king canopy bed, private bath, sitting area with fireplace, private verandah overlooking the second floor greenhouse, with access to the lower level terrace. This Suite also offers your choice of complimentary champagne, red or white wine upon arrival. This suite is perfect for your honeymoon or a romantic getaway. All rooms, which are equipped with private baths and TV/VCR's (upon request), provide a warm haven after a fun-filled day.

Breakfast is a prominent part of any stay at the Golden Oaks Mansion. Guests are awakened to the alluring aromas of a full breakfast each morning, offering traditional breakfast favorites as well as gourmet specialties. Beginning with fresh juices and special blends of tea, guests are treated to homemade baked goods, such as banana bread or apple crisp, followed by a hot entree. While the entree varies daily, it might include a delicious glass of blueberry pumpkin parfait, pancakes topped with fruit or an egg casserole filled with cheddar cheese and broccoli. Guests may choose to eat breakfast in the cheerful breakfast sunroom, the wrap-around porch or in front of the fireplace in the formal parlor. Each afternoon, homemade cookies warmly welcome new guests checking in and old guests returning from a day of explorations.

Drenched in history, The Golden Oaks Mansion was the summer home of Dr. Philip Maxwell, a prominent and wealthy Chicago surgeon. The property was rescued from total dereliction in the 1970's by Ruth Ann and Christopher Brown who made it their home and established it as a bed and breakfast.  In 1997 Frederick A. Stresen-Reuter II acquired The Oaks Inn.   A fourth generation Chicagoan, he often summered in Lake Geneva and has retired to Mexico .

In April of 2002 Nancy Golden Waspi acquired the Oaks Inn. In honor of her beloved father, mother, and grandparents who resided in Chicago , she changed the name to include her Irish heritage and family namesake.  Keeping the history of the 1856 mansion, Nancy included the original estate name, "Oaks".  This historical site is now known as " Golden Oaks Mansion ."

A resident of Lake Geneva since 1979, Nancy often walked past the mansion and admired its beauty and history.  Although Nancy left Lake Geneva in the mid 90's to pursue her career in the cosmetic profession, she continued to be pulled back to her many ties in Lake Geneva .  After living in LA, Scottsdale , Long Island NY , Ohio and traveling worldwide, she came home to Lake Geneva to fulfill her long time dream of owning a B&B. While continuing with her career in cosmetics,  Nancy has made a private oasis for her family, friends, and guests of Golden Oaks Mansion .
