The Barbican: Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin
One of the quaintest romantic inns in Wisconsin 's Door County , The Barbican Inn, built in 1867, is a beautiful grouping of three turn-of-the century estates surrounded by country gardens in the downtown area of Sturgeon Bay . Each of its 17 theme rooms is magnificently set up to reflect a specific theme, and all include whirlpool, private bath and gas fireplace. Each theme room affords the opportunity to escape into whatever fantasy suits you, from rustic to Roman, from the Governor’s room to the Veranda or Pines. Clearly, intended for to attract adult couples, each suite is nearly a world unto its own.
While all 17 theme rooms are luxuriously furnished, the Villa Suite (shown on the right) , with its palatial décor is one favorite. The spacious, light-filled Villa Suite features a lace-draped mahogany canopy bed set against white walls, private bath, fireplace, whirlpool bath, microwave and refrigerator. Included in the room rate is breakfast which arrives at between 8:00 a.m - 10:00 a.m (make your choice the day before), which is delivered in a breakfast basket filled with fresh-baked muffins, freshly squeezed orange juice, assortment of fresh fruits, tea and coffee seems to magically appear on your doorstep each morning.
Ultimately, The Barbican is designed to allow those in search of relaxation and privacy the chance to be left alone. As the property's legions of fans can attest, that is one promise on which it really delivers. The Barbican is within walking distance to an array of unique gift shops, wonderful restaurants and cafes.
