Bay Inn 1968 Comox St., Vancouver, British Columbia V6G 1R4, Canada
| Antiques
furnish these two beautifully decorated 1930s Tudor-style houses a block from
the ocean and Stanley Park. One house, the original inn, has an ornate Gothic
dining table in the breakfast room, a parlor with wing chairs, a fireplace, a
gilt Louis XV clock and candelabra, and a tiny Italianate garden out back. The
guest rooms are just as lavish: three have sleigh beds, one has a romantic four-poster,
and the suite has a loft bedroom with its own fireplace. The equally beautiful
Chilco House across the street is decorated in traditional French style with warm
colors and rich fabrics. It opens onto a small park and has its own sitting and
breakfast room. The suite here is especially lavish, with brocade drapes and bed
curtains and a wood-burning fireplace.
Full breakfast is included, and
port and sherry are served each afternoon and evening at both houses. The inn
is non-smoking. Click

Pacific Hotel 300-999 Canada Pl., Vancouver, British Columbia V6C

| Gabled
like an alpine castle but as intimate as a boutique hotel, the Pan Pacific Lodge
Whistler helps define the upscale community of Whistler, Canada. The lodge's glistening
white walls rise from Whistler Village at the base of the area's premier ski mountains,
Whistler and Blackcomb. Rooms are very generous in size (almost every room easily
sleeps four). Many rooms have fireplaces, whirlpool baths, balconies, and kitchens;
some suites have private saunas. The
resort community offers boundless visitor attractions. In winter, enthusiasts
revel in over 7,000 acres of ski slopes, stretching over eight miles and including
North America's steepest mile-long vertical drop. At the dawn of the new millennium,
both Ski and Skiing magazines declared Whistler the number one ski resort in North
America. The Pan Pacific Lodge Whistler rests just steps from the Whistler Village
and Excalibur Gondolas. A
centerpiece of the waterfront Canada Place, the luxurious Pan Pacific is convenient
to the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre and Vancouver's main cruise-ship
terminal. Among the dramatic features of the three-story atrium lobby are a totem
pole and waterfall. The lounge, restaurant, and café all have huge windows
with views of the harbor and mountains. Eighty percent of the rooms have water
views, and all have high-speed Internet access. Click

fir woodwork and doors, exposed ceiling beams, a kachelofen (traditional farmhouse
fireplace-oven), and antler chandeliers hung over fir benches and tables carry
out the rustic European theme of this fancy Tyrolean inn a few minutes' walk outside
the village. The bedrooms, done with Ralph Lauren decor, contain more custom-crafted
furniture but no phones or TVs to disturb the peace. Four upgraded rooms are very
spacious and have such added amenities as whirlpool tubs; smaller rooms have showers
rather than tubs. A hearty European breakfast and afternoon tea are included in
the tariff, and occasional dinners are also available at this no-smoking inn.
Durlacher Hof has a five-day minimum-stay requirement during the January-to-March
ski season. Click
