Carroll Salons 6325 Falls of Neuse Rd # 61 Raleigh, NC 27615
| When
you want to feel like you've just walked off the streets of SoHo and into a totally
happening scene, look to Douglas Carroll. It's hustling, bustling and sure to
bring life to you and your hair. Master stylist and owner Douglas Carroll, as
well as one of his senior and junior stylists, specialize in all-the-rage cuts.
The salon's 20 stylists are packed into a small space, making the salon loud and
lively. There's not much in the way of decor; the focus here is on the activity.
The crowd ranges from young North Raleighites to their moms who are trying to
keep up with the times. And for a hip salon, it's affordable. Cuts range from
$30-$85 and coloring begins at $55. The salon also draws a good deal of clientele
to its spa, which is quietly situated in the back. Spa treatments include facials,
peels, microdermabrasion, waxing and eyebrow shaping. Make someone's spa wish

Grove Park Inn Spa 290 Macon Ave. Asheville, NC 28804
| Erected underground
so as not to spoil the view from the inn, the Grove Park Inn Spa was designed
as the ultimate escape for careworn guests. The subterranean grotto seems more
like a exotic jungle film set than a professional spa. In addition to boilerplate
services like Swedish massages and European facials, this oasis also offers eccentric
new age therapies like reiki massage with aura imaging (followed by an optional
color pod wrap), cool stone facials (featuring the application of basalt rocks
to the skin) and spirulina balneotherapy (which, loosely translated, means ''seaweed
baths''). Even jaded spa veterans who think they've seen it all will be taken
aback by this spa's myriad marvels, among which are thoughtful accents like fiber-optic
faux rock and a lap pool equipped with an underwater sound system. Clients are
shuttled from procedure to procedure with the help of leather-bound agendas and
a fleet of doting estheticians. Those who come just for the atmosphere are encouraged
to partake in the spa's myriad waterscapes, saunas and lounges before adjourning
to the juice bar or gift shop. Make someone's spa wish come true...Spa
Wish Gift Certificates | | | | | | | Iatria 8020
Creedmoor Road Raleigh, NC 27613
| This
is where the upper echelon comes to take a break. And for good reason. Iatria
has it all, and it's all top of the line. Offering the full gamut of spa services,
this North Raleigh hot spot draws in and maintains a large list of well-to-do
clientele who can afford services such as intense pulsated light photorejuvenation
(IPL), which treats facial redness and minimizes wrinkles; and Lypossage, which
reduces cellulite and helps contour the body. Massages, which include a Thai-style
approach involving yoga stretches and the Basalt stone treatment that uses hot
volcanic rocks, range from about $70-$95. Facials (using the Burt's Bees product
line) cost about the same. Clean
and professional is what you get here. Lightly colored walls interspersed with
dashes of color from flowers and furniture combine with soft white lighting in
an airy environment. Inside, you'll see suit-and-tie types (the spa offers business
retreats that combine meeting space with spa services) and clients sporting terrycloth
robes and slippers. Make someone's spa wish come true...Spa

Eccentrica 1201 Woodcroft Pkwy Durham, NC 27713
| It
tags itself as a ''mode Italia boutique,'' and because of its focus on the most
cutting-edge trends from Europe to New York, it's pretty right on. Spa Eccentrica
Salon Art stands out from other Triangle salons because stylists Tamara and Kamal
practice an art of cutting hair that focuses on an individual's bone structure,
which, they maintain, is the foundation for the perfect cut. Although cuts run
about $75, clients say they're worth every penny. Spa
Eccentrica is small, chic and high-end. Quietly located next to The Swim and Tennis
Club, it draws, well, a swim-and-tennis-club type of crowd as well as well-to-do
trendsetters who travel in from all over the Triangle. The upper crust comes here
to look current, and often leaves with cutting-edge highlights and colorful chunks.

Hair Design & Day Spa 4406 Old Wake Forest Rd Raleigh, NC
27609
| If
you're looking to pamper yourself, but don't want to break the bank, this Triangle
salon is a best bet. Because it's a chain, it's a bit less expensive than some
of its competitors. Nonetheless, the staff manages to offer personalized service
and special treatments. Traditional spa services include deep tissue, Swedish,
sports and pregnancy massages ($40-$80); facials; and enzymatic sea mud packs
and salt scrubs. Other body therapies ($45-$85) include cellulite treatment and
the popular warm-weather favorite: the Buff & Bronze, in which self-tanner
is massaged over the entire exfoliated body. Seaweed, clay and herbal body wraps
are also offered, as is ear candling, a treatment that is said to help with sinus
problems, sore throats and other ailments. Don't
expect luxe surroundings, but cushy chairs and soothing lamplight make for a quiet
scene. Clients are taken to a behind-the scenes locale for spa services, and cuts
are done in small, but open areas. Make

Kekel Salon Spa 1037 Bullard Court, Suite 108 Raleigh, NC 27615
| Skin
and hair care take center stage at Von Kekel Salon Spa, which has been voted the
best spa in the Triangle more than once. The spa is an Aveda concept salon, meaning
that each staff member is trained at the Aveda Institute in SoHo, New York, and
uses the plant-derived Aveda line of products. Services, such as facials with
a hand and foot massage, are moderately priced at around $75, while massages range
from $55-$110 for 30- and 60-minute sessions, respectively. Body treatments, including
the aromatic peppermint seaweed wrap, run around $45-$85; and a shampoo, cut and
style doesn't exceed $60. Peach
walls and cream carpet welcome guests to this medium-sized spa. Start your experience
off with a cup of tea, then unwind to the sounds of nature while being guided
to your treatment room. Von Kekel is a little nicer than your average run-of-the-mill
day spa, and is a good middle-of-the-road choice as far as range of services,
cost and atmosphere go. Expect a clean and simple space with a hint of Euro-style.
